At Black Tie Transportation, we believe commuting should be comfortable, efficient, and stress-free. That’s why we launched WeCommute, a luxury commuter shuttle program designed to connect Bay Area employees to work hubs with ease.

From its introduction to today’s reintroduction, WeCommute remains committed to providing a better way to travel, replacing long solo drives, crowded public transit, or multiple transfers with a direct, comfortable ride supported by the latest smart technology.

The Birth of WeCommute: Solving the Bay Area Commute

Originally launched in 2019, WeCommute was created to meet the growing need for commuter-friendly transportation between East Bay suburbs and major business centers like San Francisco.

The goal?
Offer a seamless alternative to driving or public transit that makes the most of commute time, whether riders prefer to catch up on work with onboard Wi-Fi or simply relax in a luxury coach.

Key Features of WeCommute include:

  • Reserved Seating: Book one-way or round-trip rides in advance with a guaranteed seat.

  • Luxury Coaches: Ride in high-end, clean, well-maintained vehicles, more tour bus than public bus.

  • Onboard Wi-Fi: Turn your commute into productive or downtime with free Wi-Fi access.

  • Safe and Reliable Service: Professional drivers, strict cleanliness standards, and carefully planned routes.

When first rolled out, WeCommute’s routes were crafted based on community feedback. Proposed routes connected Livermore, Pleasanton, Danville, and Walnut Creek directly to San Francisco, reducing drive times and eliminating stressful transfers.

The Technology Behind the Ride: Powered by TRAKK

A big part of what sets WeCommute apart is the smart technology behind it. Powered by TRAKK, a platform created by tech entrepreneur Dominic Haigh, WeCommute provides real-time shuttle tracking, booking, and rider updates.

TRAKK’s platform lets riders:

  • Book and reserve their seat via an app.

  • Track their shuttle’s arrival in real-time.

  • Receive notifications and updates about their ride.

Meanwhile, Black Tie dispatchers can monitor vehicle locations, optimize routes based on demand, and make adjustments on the fly, all to keep rides running smoothly.

Fun fact: TRAKK technology has also improved services like Pleasanton Rides, our senior transportation program, making trip booking and ride tracking easier for the community.

Pleasanton Rides: Smart Local Transportation for Seniors

In addition to WeCommute, Black Tie Transportation operates Pleasanton Rides, a community shuttle service for seniors aged 70 and over.

Using the TRAC technology system (a sister to TRAKK), Pleasanton Rides efficiently schedules trips, optimizes routing, and provides real-time tracking, ensuring safe, reliable transportation for essential trips like medical appointments and grocery runs.

Thanks to this technology, the program has:

  • Increased efficiency and ridership.
  • Reduced wait times for passengers.

  • Provided real-time updates for seniors and their families.

Pleasanton Rides showcases how Black Tie uses the same innovative tools across different services, whether it’s tech commuters or senior citizens, always with an emphasis on safety, reliability, and service.

The Evolution of Commuter Shuttles in the Bay Area

The Bay Area has a long history of commuter shuttle innovation, starting with the “Google buses” of the mid-2000s. These tech shuttles revolutionized employee commutes by offering luxury rides between urban centers and tech campuses, a concept WeCommute embraces and evolves.

Over time, the commuter shuttle landscape has shifted:

  • Sustainability and Technology: Real-time apps, electric vehicles, and emission-reducing initiatives became major focuses.

  • COVID-19 Impact: The pandemic temporarily paused many shuttle services, but it also redefined commuting habits toward hybrid work models.

  • Hybrid Flexibility: Today’s commuters often travel only 2–3 days a week, creating demand for flexible, tech-enabled shuttle options like WeCommute.

Why WeCommute Matters Now More Than Ever

As employees return to offices, convenient and safe commute options are key to supporting hybrid work lifestyles. Black Tie Transportation is reintroducing WeCommute with an updated focus for 2025:

  • Environmental Responsibility:
One full WeCommute shuttle can take 30–40 cars off the road, reducing congestion and emissions.
  • Employee Productivity and Well-Being:
Onboard Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and guaranteed rides mean commuters arrive refreshed and ready.
  • Flexible Options:
Perfect for hybrid schedules, commuters can book seats only on the days they work in-office.
  • Reliability and Safety:
Professional drivers, clean vehicles, and real-time updates ensure peace of mind with every ride.
  • Community Building:
Shared rides can foster a sense of connection among riders, turning commutes into networking or social opportunities.
